Now the Korean people absolutely trust and follow the Workers﹊ Party of Korea (WPK), referring to it as a motherly party.

The WPK and the masses of the people are in firm unity. This is attributable to the hard efforts of leader Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Party, who has been striving to strengthen and develop it into the one of the people.

Since he began to work at the Central Committee of the WPK on June 19, 1964, Kim Jong Il, carrying on President Kim Il Sung﹊s idea of ﹍The people are my God﹎, has been leading the Party to be a political organization fully responsible for the destiny of the people.

In many of his works such as Look After the People in a Responsible Manner as a Mother Would Do with Her Children and in his statements, the WPK general secretary instructed that the Party﹊s lines and policies should be drawn up to reflect the people's aspirations and demands and that the Party should be built as a political organization defending the people's interests thoroughly, and taught the ways and means.

Especially, in Socialism Is a Science, his work made public on November 1, 1994 after the demise of the President on July 8 the same year, he demonstrated again his will to build the socialist ruling Party as a motherly party.

The other day a city was completely submerged in an unprecedented flood.

Not a single life should be lost, he ordered.

Accordingly the Party took a measure to mobilize helicopters, rapid transport ships, amphibious vehicles and land transportation units to the victims﹊ rescue.

The three-dimensional relief operation brought about such a miracle as parturient women having an easy labor, thus adding to the local population with no life lost, despite the catastrophic calamity.

In July 1994 when the whole country was in bitter tears over the demise of the President, a helicopter took off to fetch newborn triplets and their mother from an out-of-the-way place far away from the capital city to save their lives, and at one time a former woman soldier whose face and hands still had scars caused by a serious burn she had happened to suffer during her military service was sent abroad to get treatment for restoring her face and hands.

In Korea meritorious deeds for the good of the country and people are remembered forever.

Revolutionary and patriotic martyrs cemeteries were built where there have been buried the remains of revolutionary and patriotic martyrs, heroes, prominent figures of the Party and the state, and meritorious people who died devotedly fighting for the liberation of Korea and the freedom and liberty of the people, for the building of a new country and the victory in the Fatherland Liberation War, for the post-war rehabilitation and construction, for the socialist construction and for the reunification of the nation.

Their hometowns and alma maters, the factories and farms where they had worked, and the army units where they had served are all named after them.

Kim Jong Il also pays deep attention to the people's life from their food problem and condiments such as salt to their daily necessities such as shoes, cosmetics, drinking water and firewood, and heating conditions.

A few years ago, during his inspection of the Samsu Power Station under construction in the northern part of Korea, he said he was there to see not only how much the construction had progressed but also how the residents to be removed from the area to be submerged were to be provided with living conditions.

It was necessary to bear it in mind that the residents﹊ living was more important than tens of thousands of kilowatts of electrical power, he said and instructed that the problem of their living should be solved not in word but in deed before stressing that for the Party and the state to take care of the people's life was just the Party﹊s policy and its mass line. Consequently all sorts of necessary measures were taken: the thousands of families came to move into modern houses fully furnished with household effects at the same time.

Now a new phase is being opened in improving the living standards of the Korean people.

The material and technical foundation for agricultural production has been consolidated with the completion of large-scale land realignment projects and the construction of gravity-fed waterways, and poultry and fish farms and other production bases capable of contributing to the improvement of the people's food supply have been finely built across the country, and cities, villages, streets and workplaces are changing as befits a socialist fairyland.

A lot of noted or scenic spots have been developed including the Ullim Falls and the Ryongmun Cavern, and recreational grounds, sanatoria and holiday camps for the people have appeared in Mts. Kuwol and Chilbo and other scenic places.

The WPK enshrined as a motherly party in the mind of the people will be immortal along with the masses of the people.
