The Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland and the tradition of great national unity

May 5 this year marks the 72nd anniversary of the Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland, the example of the movement of the national united front and great national unity in the world.

The situation of revolution created in Korea in the mid-1930s presented an urgent need for developing the movement of the anti-Japanese national united front onto a fresh stage.

In quick response to it, President Kim Il Sung put forward the policy of inaugurating a permanent united front organization and expanding it on a nationwide scale under the close relations with the movement of the anti-Japanese national united front and the anti-Japanese armed struggle at the Nanhutou Meeting in February 1936.

Throughout the arduous march accompanied by trying ordeals and fierce battles against the Japanese troops, he made full preparations for forming a united front by working out its program, statute and inaugural declaration. On May 5, 1936, he declared the inauguration of the ARF at the Donggang Meeting.

He delivered a historic speech under the title Let Us Further Expand and Develop the Anti-Japanese National United Front Movement and Take the Korean Revolution as a Whole to a New Upsurge.

In his report, he referred to the need to rally the entire nation as one political force under the banner of national liberation and establish in the border area a new base which the Korean People’s Revolutionary Army could rely on, in order to conduct the anti-Japanese national united front movement dynamically and further expand and develop the anti-Japanese armed struggle by advancing into the border area and the homeland.

He made public the Ten-Point Program of the ARF and the Inaugural Declaration of the ARF at the meeting. The meeting adopted the Rules of the ARF that he worked out.

He was elected chairman of the ARF at the meeting.

With the founding of the ARF, the anti-Japanese national united front movement developed rapidly in a more organized and systematic way on a nationwide scale, closely combined with the anti-Japanese armed struggle. It was able to dynamically organize and mobilize all the anti-Japanese forces to the struggle for national liberation.

After the founding of the ARF, the entire Korean nation focused on Mt. Paektu where General Kim Il Sung fights against Japan.

The seasoned leadership of General Kim Il Sung resulted in the expansion of the ARF into a pan-national organization involving hundreds and thousands of members from all walks of life and from all parts of Korea and Northeast China in a short span of time, greatly contributed to Korea’s liberation.

The precious gains made in the united front movement and the brilliant traditions of great national unity established by President Kim Il Sung made it possible for the Korean people to successfully carry out the anti-imperialist, anti-feudal democratic revolution. Despite the complicated situation after the country’s liberation, those with strength devoted strength, those with knowledge contributed knowledge and those with money donated money to build a new country. The Koreans worked political and military miracles by defeating the US invaders through all–people resistance in the Korean War. The great national unity for independent reunification of Korea had been provided thanks to his energetic leadership. His idea of national independence and great national unity has been enriched by leader Kim Jong Il, brilliant commander of Songun, onto a fresh stage. It records the brilliant annals of the Korean revolution and propels the Korean people’s struggle for independent reunification.

The advance of the Korean people for independent reunification, peace and prosperity meet with grave obstacles owing to vicious challenges of the US and the anti-reunification conservative ruling force of south Korea.

However, Korea’s reunification will be realized as long as there is the main force of Korea’s reunification consolidated by the brilliant tradition of great national unity.
